![]() I don't have a lot of experience with PAFs, I owned an early 1965 ES-335 that had Patent Sticker pickups (cheaper PAFs) and I thought my 1980 Greco SA-900 with Greco/Maxon PU-2's was a better sounding guitar. I have owned all of these pickups but never all at once so any direct comparisons I make would need to be taken with a grain of salt. ![]() They're lower power with a lot of string to string clarity less growl, I think the SD Antiquities are sort of in this ballpark also. One of the things I've read about Dry-Zs is that there was not a lot of variation, they were very consistent, the four or five sets of Dry-z's that I owned were very consistent.įor those that don't know the Greco/Maxon PU-2 and Dry-Z are similar to an Ibanez Super 70, or more recently the PRS DGT or Throbak SLE-101. ![]() As JPF mentioned and as you read in almost any PAF thread, there was a lot of variation in PAF's.
